Your health and wellbeing are important: they impact other people too
F&TF with a relationship twist
Turning 30 can be a pivotal moment for many, and for one of my clients, this milestone brought an unexpected realisation about her relationship and personal well-being. After recently returning from a holiday with her partner, she was struck by a profound shift in their intimacy and daily habits.
A wake-up call
During their holiday, my client experienced a moment of clarity. While enjoying a relaxed evening with her partner, she reflected on their recent intimacy – or lack thereof. Up until that point, they had only had sex twice that year, a stark contrast to their previous frequency of up to twice a day this time last year. When she inquired about this change, her partner admitted that he was still very much interested but had hesitated to initiate because she always seemed exhausted.
This revelation was a tough pill to swallow. She realised that despite her mental desire for intimacy, physical fatigue – from work, from family stresses, and, clearly not looking after herself – had become a significant barrier to keeping her end of things up. Her energy levels had plummeted, leaving her too drained to engage in the curricular and extra-curricular activities that once came naturally.
We started working together in Spring, when she was determined to make a change, to commit to a journey of health improvement. By focusing on fat loss, adopting a regular eating pattern, and committing to a structured training plan, she experienced a remarkable boost in energy and confidence. This newfound vitality not only transformed her physical appearance but also revitalised her approach to daily life.
The ripple effect
The benefits of this transformation extended beyond the gym. Her increased energy and confidence made her more present and engaged in her relationship, and where it wasn't a topic we'd broached before, to hear her talk about having sex again – so proudly, so excitedly – in a recent catch-up properly helped me fall in love with coaching all over again. The impact looking after ourselves can have on other people should never be underestimated.
Moreover, their holiday dining experience changed dramatically. What was once a cycle of overeating and feeling sluggish transformed into a shared experience of enjoying food mindfully. They savoured their meals, appreciated each dish, and felt more content, both physically and emotionally. The shift from excess to moderation not only enhanced their enjoyment of food but also made going for a meal feel more intimate.
Beyond the physical: emotional and relational benefits
Her journey highlights the profound impact of physical health on emotional and relational well-being. Improved body confidence and energy levels can reinvigorate not only personal satisfaction but also the dynamics of a relationship. What I loved in this conversation was the praise she had for her partner, recognising his unspoken support and understanding, which, over the past couple of months has clearly been a crucial role in this process, demonstrating once again how a collaborative approach to our health and fitness can lead to more fulfilling experiences and a stronger connection.
In essence, investing in one's health is not merely about changing physical appearance; it’s about reclaiming energy, confidence, and the joy of shared experiences. My client’s story is a testament to the holistic benefits of a well-rounded approach to our well-being and I’m beyond proud of them and the opportunity to be a part of this chapter.
Love life
Getting to coach people towards better health outcomes, and gym performances, and self-confidence is a privilege. Hearing about mental and sexual health improvements too are moments I don’t take lightly. It takes a lot to invest in yourself, to recognise that something could be better and then put the time and energy and money into realising it.
Obviously my work centres on how people move and eat but the confidence and self-love my clients report might be something you won’t believe until you experience it. If you had more confidence at work, in your relationships, when shopping – basically whenever! – how do you think that would feel? Pretty good to great, right? If you’re ready to make a change, I’m looking to take 4 people on in September.
We’ll undo the summer fluff or get you ready for a winter bulk all so you can feel that you’re making a mark on your life and loving it, rather than letting it mark you and wishing things were different.
Hit the link below to access my calendar and book in a free and completely confidential 20-minute discovery call. We’ll chat all about where you are and where you’d like to go and how we could work with each other. And if we don’t click, hopefully you’ll have a clear idea of what you do want and can do next. I look forward to hearing from you!
If you don’t already, you should follow me on Instagram where I post free fitness tips and food bits and sometimes daft clips through the week, as well as on a much smaller TikTok for more experimental and less edited ideas.
Much love, and I’ll see yas in the next one
